drones

really?
That's what they're saying; there's also reports of Iranian cruise missiles fired as well at Israel.

*deadpans* Maybe the mullahs in Teheran have decided to commit mass suicide because you and I both know the Israels are now under no compunction to not get their nukes out and pound Iran into layers of irradiated obsidian glass.

The IRGC has released a statement

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has released a statement saying:
“We launched an operation using drones and missiles in response to the Zionist entity’s crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Syria”.
“The operation was carried out with dozens of missiles and drones to strike specific targets in the occupied territories”, the statement read.

OR:

"Iran is stupid. Film at 11."

(The Guardian) Benjamin Netanyahu: 'Whoever harms us, we will harm them'
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has released the following statement on Saturday evening amid Iran’s launch of drones towards Israel: In recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran.

Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries. We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so level-headedly and with determination.

Citizens of Israel, I know that you also are also level-headed. I call on you to follow the directives of IDF Home Front Command. Together we will stand and with God’s help – together we will overcome all of our enemies.”

Lyse Doucet, BBC News Chief international correspondent: This is uncharted territory fraught with risk and unpredictability.

Iran and Israel have fought shadow wars for decades, but for the first time Iran is now targeting Israel directly from Iranian soil. This is no longer a confrontation led by Iran’s array of powerful proxies across the region against an enemy which has long kept silent about its own attacks on Iranian assets and targeted assassinations.

Israel describes Iran as the world’s greatest sponsor of terrorism; for Iran, hostility towards Israel, what it calls the “Zionist regime” is a core tenet of its 1979 revolutionary doctrine.

The risk of confrontation had risen with every month the Gaza war has ground on.

Iran has long prided itself on playing a long game, on exercising “strategic patience". Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has avoided all-out war ever since he came to power in 1989 in the shadow of the destructive Iran-Iraq war. Now the world waits to see the impact of this unprecedented strike.

(The Guardian) It’s 5:49am in Tehran and past 5:19am in Tel Aviv – Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency says explosions have been heard in the airport of the central city of Isfahan – but the reasons are unknown.

Commercial flights including Dubai-based carriers Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting their routes early on Friday morning over western Iran without explanation. Local warnings to aviators suggested the airspace may have been closed.

The incident comes as tensions remain high in the wider Middle East after Iran’s unprecedented missile-and-drone attack on Israel. Isfahan is home to a major airbase for the Iranian military, as well as sites associated with its nuclear program.

Over the weekend, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles in a retaliatory strike after a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria. Most of the drones and missiles were downed before reaching Israeli territory.

(The Guardian) Iran suspends flights over several cities
Iran has suspended flights over several cities including the central city of Isfahan, where state media earlier reported explosions were heard near its airport. “Flights over Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran cities have been suspended,” state media reported, according to Reuters.

A short time ago, Iran’s Fars news agency said explosions had been heard in central Isfahan airport – but the reasons were unknown.

Isfahan is home to a major airbase for the Iranian military, as well as sites associated with its nuclear program. It is about 350 kilometres (215 miles) south of Iran’s capital, Tehran. Iran’s government offered no immediate comment.

Associated Press also reported that Commercial flights had begun diverting their routes early Friday morning over western Iran, without explanation. Dubai-based carriers Emirates and FlyDubai began diverting around western Iran early Friday. They offered no explanation, though local warnings to aviators suggested the airspace may have been closed.

Iran got huge W here really . US don’t want to enter into Middle East affairs again and Iran is far more formidable opponent here .

Netanyahu has work cut out for him here .
